How to choose the right box mod

When upgrading to a more sophisticated and powerful box mod, you need to consider your requirements. Consider the size, look and features you would like as well as how much power you want. Here’s a quick guide on some of the important factors:

Power is one of the most important factors in choosing your box mod. Power output can be the difference between a light starter kit and an absolute vapour machine for chucking clouds.
Box mods that produce more power than your average ecig starter kit can be used with lower resistance atomizers, tanks and coils. This generally means that more vapour can be produced and a higher intensity of flavor. Most higher power box mods have higher battery capacity, more features and much better performance.

Battery life

Some box mods have a larger battery life than others, due to their capacity. A larger battery capacity means that the mod will last much longer in between charges. Using higher power will of course use more of the battery, so if you’re wanting a high powered device, it’s important to consider battery capacity.

Control and Customisation

Some box mods have advanced features which allow you to have more control over your vaping experience. From variable wattage to features like pass through charging which will allow you to use the device while it’s charging.
For example, puff counters can tell you how often you’ve used your vape. This can allow you to put a limit on it as well, if you wish.
Some mods will allow you to change how quickly the coil heats up, making it quicker or smoother depending on your preference.
Some mods will also allow you to use temperature control instead of wattage. Bare in mind you will need a coil that is compatible with temperature control in order to use this feature (nickel, titanium or stainless steel coils)

Vape box mod types

There are two main categories of vape mods: Internal battery box mods and external battery box mods. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but ultimately they are both a great way of improving your vape set up.

Internal battery box mods.

Internal battery box mods come with a battery built into the device and can’t be removed. They are perfect for USB charging and for a simple to use device. There is less weight to the device and no need to worry about what batteries to choose.

Internal battery pros.

It can be cheaper to buy an internal battery box mod, than it is buying the batteries separate from the device. A built in battery can also result in a lighter device that is more portable. Internal battery mods can output a power from anywhere from 40w+ to 100w+. There are definitely some internal battery box mods that go well above this and will have the battery life to back it up as well, allowing you to customise your set up to how you want it.

Internal battery cons.

With internal battery vape box mods you can only charge them via USB charger and you don’t have the option of using an external charger. Not only that, but you won’t be able to replace the batteries in the future when they need to be. When it comes to battery life, not a lot of internal battery box mods have a battery capacity as large as 2 x 18650 batteries.

External battery box mods.

External battery box mods don’t come with batteries, instead the batteries are external from the device and can be easily replaced at any time, allowing you to customise your power and battery life even further.

External battery pros.

There are many advantages to having external batteries. First of all, you will have more choice of battery life considering as how there are single battery box mods, dual battery mods and even three battery mods. Not only that but there are different battery sizes as well, so you have your usually 2 x 18650 battery box mods and then you have mods that take one or more of your 20700 or 21700 batteries. With batteries such as this, you will get more power and most likely a longer battery life during the day.
With external battery vape box mods the power can generally be pushed higher in most cases. If you’re looking for a 200w or 220w box mod, you’ll most likely be looking at an external battery vape mod.
Another advantage of external batteries is that the lifespan of your vape device can be increased indefinitely, simply because you can replace the batteries when they start to die out. Replace those batteries, and it’s like having a brand new vape all over again. And finally, you have the option of having multiple sets of batteries and charging your batteries with an external charger.

External battery cons.

The only real disadvantages you get with external battery box mods is that they can be heavier than internal battery box mods, usually because there is more battery power in the device. Also, although you can charge your batteries through the USB cable, it’s recommended to charge external batteries with an external battery charger, in order to prolong the batteries in the long term.

Even some of the best box mods on the market require a little extra research to fully understand all of their functions. If you’re having any issues with your vape box mods not firing, box mods not turning on or getting hot, this is a section we have included that will teach you hints on how to use your box mods and avoid any confusion when using your device.

Box mod not turning on.

If you’re having trouble with your box mod not turning on or not firing, the first thing you must check is if the batteries are in the correct way. Make sure the positive and negative ends of the battery match up with the positive and negative signs on the battery section itself. Not only that but of course you must make sure that the batteries are charged as well. If the batteries don’t have charge or are put into the mod the wrong way around you’ll probably find that your box mod is not turning on or not firing.

Box mod charging instructions USB/external charger.

When it comes to charging your batteries, most box mods allow you to use a usb charger to power up your batteries, however a very small minority of them don’t. It’s also not totally recommended to use the usb charger for your box mod batteries. This is only because an external battery charger will help to prolong the life of your batteries in the long term. For example if you have a box mod that takes 2 x 18650 batteries or a box mod that takes 20700 batteries, you will get a longer lifetime from your batteries if you use an external battery charger as apposed to using the usb charger with your box mod. However, since batteries can always be replaced, and they’re not too expensive, you may just want to use the usb charger for your box mods if it’s more convenient for you.

If you’re finding that your vape box mod is getting hot, it’s worth noting that all devices tend to get hot during use so it may just be something that is normal. However, if you’re finding that your box mod is getting abnormally hot really quickly, it could be due to a number of things.

Battery ventilation.

The first possibility is that your batteries aren’t getting enough ventilation. If when you’re using your mod your hands are covering the ventilation holes, it could be that your batteries aren’t venting properly and the heat from the batteries is getting stuck within the device as opposed to venting out of the mod like it should be.

Are your batteries genuine?

Another possible issue is that the batteries you’re using may not be genuine. If you’re buying the batteries for your box mod from somewhere unofficial, it can be hard to guarantee that your batteries are genuine and have good quality control. By buying your batteries from a trusted retailer, you can be sure that you are getting a genuine product with good quality assurance.
